About this medication
Semaglutide is a medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. It increases insulin levels in the body, which helps to decrease blood sugar levels. This process also reduces the amount of sugar released into the bloodstream and slows down digestion. Semaglutide can lower the risk of heart attack and stroke in people with type 2 diabetes. Changes to diet and exercise are often recommended along with the use of Semaglutide to further enhance its therapeutic effects.
How should you use this medication?
Semaglutide is a medication that is administered as an injection under the skin of your upper leg, stomach area, or upper arm. It is given once every week and should be used exactly as directed. Take your medication at regular intervals and do not take it more often than directed. If you are using this medication with insulin, make sure to inject the medication and insulin separately and not mix them together. Change (rotate) injection sites with each injection to avoid any potential complications.
It is important to properly dispose of used needles and syringes by putting them in a special sharps container instead of a trash can. If you do not have a sharps container, call your pharmacist or care team for assistance. A MedGuide will be provided with each prescription and refill, so be sure to read the information carefully each time.
If you have questions about how to use this medication, talk to your pharmacist or care team. Additionally, if you are using this medication in children, special care may be needed, so discuss this with your care team.
